While Kernell’s work is a classic in the field of Presidential Scholarship, the more recent work by George Edwards, On Deaf Ears: The Limits of the Bully Pulpit On Deaf Ears: The Limits of the Bully Pulpit, suggests this is a losing and divisive strategy.
