Congressional Dysfunction: Bad for the GOP in 2014?

- January 13, 2013

This question was the subject of a recent Politico piece by Alex Burns, and also of the back-and-forth between Burns and Brendan Nyhan that Henry noted.  In my latest post at Wonkblog’s “Polisci Perspective,” I argue that the research supports opposing answers to this question.  On the one hand, voters sometimes appear to ignore political dysfunction.  On the other hand, low congressional approval does appear to hurt the majority party in the House.  In part, I am drawing on some of my earlier posts on The Monkey Cage (e.g., here and here). But, unlike in those posts — and for the second week in a row at “Polisci Perspective” — there is an f-bomb.  In my defense, it’s hard to quote Rahm Emanuel and avoid one.
