The World’s Most Bizarre Political Ads, Part II

My call last week for bizarre political ads from across the globe received a fair number of peculiar and sometimes downright frightening examples. Especially popular were singing politicians, like these German Social-Democrats and Iceland’s Best Party, which actually won the mayoral election for which the ad was made although, according to commenter Sona, they failed to deliver on their campaign promise to bring a polar bear to Reykjavik’s zoo. The prize in this category, however, goes to this Polish politician who “sang” his campaign message accompanied by a death metal band.

Other political campaigns thought it would be a good idea to feature talking fish , yogi jumpers, and wrestlers. The scariest electoral broadcast by far was by this Japanese politician.

What is that bald Japanese fellow doing in a GOP presidential-primary debate?

I assume you know about Berlusconi’s masterpiece (bad translated, but it’s the only version with english subs that I found).

The Japanese politician thinks he is Yukio Mishima…he is not.

I can’t let a death metal band win this competition, here is an Israeli ad that “technofies” the national anthem:

Probably the most insane (and somewhat controversial at the time) political advertisement in Germany’s 2005 election came from the APPD (Anarchistic Pogo Party of Germany). The party motto/manifesto: “Arbeit ist Scheisse” (work is shit), ‘my vote for the trash’ and ‘free beer for everyone’. It’s basically showing a group of punks drinking, having sex, eating cat food and smashing stuff:

Not surprisingly they only convinced 4233 voters (out of 48 million). Note: German campaign law gives all parties running in the election free advertising time. This spot was aired prime time, on major TV channels. Probably gave some grannies a heart attack..
