Esablishment of Jordan Center for Russian Studies at NYU and Call for Executive Director Candidates

The Center’s goals are to promote awareness and understanding of Russia past, present, and future, in all its disciplinary and cultural manifestations. The Center will bring together faculty from across the schools of NYU, as well as foster engagement with specialists and leaders from outside the University. As a unit of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Center will function under the auspices of the Department of Russian & Slavic Studies while also benefiting from an advisory board made up of leading figures in Russian affairs.

The Jordan Family Center for the Advanced Study of Russia at New York University seeks a Clinical Assistant Professor and founding executive director. The role of the executive director will be to promote and publicize the work of the Center along lines agreed with the Chair of the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies and the Center’s advisory board; organize the Center’s programming, including arrangements for seminars, colloquia, lectures, and conferences; and oversee the budget. Teaching obligations can be determined in consultation with the chair of Russian and Slavic Studies. Applicants should possess a graduate degree and advanced training in the study of Russia in the social sciences or the humanities, should have a good command of the Russian language, and should be committed to work in an academic environment; PhD strongly preferred. The Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia was created in 2011 thanks to a generous gift from the family of Boris and Elizabeth Jordan. Its goals are to promote and enhance awareness and understanding of Russia past, present, and future, in all its disciplinary and cultural manifestations.
