Ross Douthat gets it exactly right: partisans on both sides of the aisle postpone hard choices in the hope that soon they’ll have a political realignment in their favor.
The New York Times has about a thousand times the circulation of the Monkey Cage, so Douthat doesn’t really need our endorsement here. But we spend so much time criticizing simplified views of politics that appear in the news media that, when a pundit gets it right, I think it’s worth noting.
