Initial Meeting of New APSA Section on Experimental Methods

- July 16, 2010

We are happy to announce that the APSA council has approved the proposal to form the Experimental Research organized section. In less than one month, the petition garnered 414 signatures (in part “thanks to Monkey Cage readers”:https://themonkeycage.org/2010/02/experimental_methods_section_i_1.html), well over the 250 required to form the section.

There will be an important section business meeting at the upcoming APSA conference on Friday, September 3, 2010, from 12:15-1:15pm, in the Marriott Wardman Park, Thurgood Marshall Ballroom East. At this meeting, we will elect section officers, approve section bylaws, and discuss plans for the future of the section.

In the meantime, feel free to explore the section website, “http://ps-experiments.ucr.edu”:http://ps-experiments.ucr.edu. The website has, among other things, a paper archive, an announcements feature, and listings for the east and west coast experiments conferences.

The website also has a membership list; please feel free to sign this list. If you signed the petition, you are automatically enrolled as a member in the website. The website provides options to filter email announcements; you can change your filter settings any time at “here”:http://ps-experiments.ucr.edu/group by clicking the “edit” link next to your name. Every website member will receive a very small number of emails from the section leadership, irrespective of your filter settings, with important section information.

We are very excited about the future of the section and its potential to help establish experimental research as a core method in our discipline.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the business meeting in DC.
