Popularity

As John pointed out in the post below, the new National Election Study data is out and this little nugget caught my eye. The NES traditional does feeling thermometers for various political figures and groups in society. The lower the number, the more disliked he/she is or they are. The higher the number, the more liked he/she is or they are. Here are the mean readings for some selected individuals and groups.

No wonder the Democrats are going after Rush Limbaugh, he’s less popular than gays, atheists, or Muslims. Even George W. Bush beats him and illegal immigrants aren’t far behind.

    The chart is fine, but if you’re going to have the numbers, always always always round to the nearest percentage point. (Unless you’re talking about numbers like 1.7% or 99.2% or whatever.)

    What’s the margin of error on these measurements? With Rush Limbaugh at 38.8 and illegal immigrants at 38.4, I imagine they’re tied in any real sense.
